Bunnies and Eggs? No, just Buffaloes, Bandits and Barbarians

First thing's first, our sincere apologies for the very late arrival of Spring schedule post cards. The mailing service made a mistake and so people are just now receiving the bi-annual schedules. Thank you for your patience!

Easter Weekend was a tremendous rugby weekend for Budd Bay. While most of us were coloring and hunting for eggs, the rest were playing cold hard rugby! The Buffaloes made it to 12 and 0 this weekend when they beat Kitsap 67-0! Nice work. The men played at Rainier Vista. Coach Jerry Quirke said everyone has been playing their BEST and morale is high. A lot of rookies got playing time this weekend. Each team picked the others' "Man of Match" title winner and Budd Bay's was Dan Santana. Stats- Mike Rodasa had 3 tries, made 7 of 10 conversions and kicked 1 penalty kick, Kirk Rose had 2 tries, Taylor Briscoe had 4 tries, Shorty (Johnathan Thomas) had 1 try. The men have two more home matches against Portland and Eugene. The playoffs are coming up quick for them so lets all go out and show some Buffalo support.

On Saturday the U16'S took on the Eastside Lions of Bellevue. The two week break did not appear to disrupt the good rugby we had seen earlier against Seattle. In another impressive performance the Barbarians ended up winning 65-0! The leading try scorer was Jacob Durr with 3, Jake Spiller continues to get better with each outing and was rewarded with 2 tries. Steven Malepeai, Brett Woods, Eddie Harriage and Mau Matautia all scored 1 try each. Jacob Durr kicked 3 conversions and Kylar Anderson kicked 1. Welcome back Barbarians!

Our Budd Bay Bandits travelled the snowy pass of Snoqualmie this weekend for Fool's Fest 2010, a 15's tournament held the first weekend of April every year. The tournament is hosted by the Spokane Men's team. Teams traveled far and wide to be "fools" and play rugby in the snow. The Bandits rang in victories all day. The first match of the day was a difficult one to get into. The Bandits were cold and sleepy, but managed to blaze past Eastern Washington University with a 15-5 win. Amped up from the first win, the Bandits hit the field again and beat the Missoula Betterside 29-5. The Betterside had swamped the Bandits last year at Maggotfest. By the third match the weather took a turn for the worst with steady snow. Many of the Budd Bay women were subbing for the Seattle Mudhens to keep warm. The Bandits played their last match against the University of WA and won again 35-5! Despite a six hour drive and blustery conditions the Bandits showed Fool's Fest that Budd Bay ain't no Fools!
As if this wasn't impressive enough, the Budd Bay Bandits were voted "MOST HONORED SIDE" at Fool's Fest 2008 and were not aware of it till this weekend. The Bandits were presented with a trophy and were informed that the level of play that they bring to the pitch as well as the level of class they exhibit was a sure fire way to secure the most honored side.
Fool's Fest tops off the Bandits' spring season. This season, the Bandits defeated 6 of the 9 teams that they played. The Bandits will travel to Maggotfest socially, but do not have any additional games this season. The match in Boise was canceled. Great Job this season Bandits. We can't wait to see what the Fall brings.
