Rugby This Weekend & Video Blogs!

Don't miss out on the action this weekend!
The Steelheads take on West Linn from OR at 12:00pm at the RAC - Lacey Regional Athletic Complex, on Steilacoom Rd SE. Go Steelheads! A little farther from home, the Bandits take on Corvallis Women's RFC, another OR team, at 1pm in Corvallis. The Barbarians compete in Shelton for their season opener, challenging both Yelm and Shelton in a round-robin contest.
Let's wish all our ruggers the best this weekend - if you can brave the weather to support our ruggers, I know it will make all the difference.

Did you see The Olympian today?
Jason Needham earned a little bit of the spotlight today with a well-done video blog put together by Beth Spain, a talented photo journalist that spent a few days with us to get some insight on what rugby is about. Jason did a great job sharing his perspective accompanied by a number of photos of the Buffaloes first training this season. Thanks to Jason for sharing his story and to Beth for capturing it!

Ladies of Budd Bay Rugby Represent

Both the Bandits and the Steelheads took full advantage of the perfect weather this weekend and represented Budd Bay Rugby well. The Bandits played a friendly match against the newer Eugene women's rugby team in Oregon. The Steelheads attended a Jamboree in Kent, WA and played three matches.

The Bandits went to Eugene to play the first game of Spring and half the team were rookie players! This was not apparent however to anyone watching the Bandits play on Saturday. The ladies stole the show 35 to 0. They had great cohesion and solid scrums. What a terrific start to the season for the Bandits. Their energy is high and this should make their next match against OSU that much more fun to watch.

Stats- Sam Elmore had 3 tries; MJ Jordan had 1 and Ericka DeLeon had 1; Rachel Rosa made all 3 conversions.

Budd Bay's U-19 girls had an amazing day at the pitch as well. The Steelheads had the smallest team at the Kent Jamboree with eighteen (4 new) but they played smart, safe and agressive rugby. The Steelheads played three matches (20 minute halves with 5 minute half time) against Chuckant, Peninsula and Lynnwood. Only one try was scored against the Budd Bay U-19 girls. Total the Steelheads made 14 tries. Quigg Davis, an assistant coach for the team, said "after the first few minutes of each game, it was clear we were in control". Go Steelheads!

This Saturday's Rugby:

Buffaloes @ Microsoft 1:00 PM
Bandits @ Corvalis 1:00 PM
Steelheads @ The RAC 1:00 PM

Buffaloes Celebrate Spring Season With a Win

On Saturday the Budd Bay Buffaloes won their first match of spring season against Seattle's Eastside Rugby team 39-17. The long break from scheduled trainings was not apparent as you watched the men play this match. The game started out a little slow, but about ten minutes in the guys were playing with their usual vigor. It was obvious that the group trained on their own time and it really paid off. It was the first win Budd Bay has had against Eastside, a level D2 team.
Great Job Buffaloes!!!

Stats: Jesse Fox x 2 and "Man of the Match", Taylor Briscoe, Dan Conklin x 3 conversions, Logan Rose, and Thomas Poti.
