Match ReportsBarbarians U-15 vs Seattle - L 20-32
Anthony Edwards (2T), Kyle Untalan (T), Treshon Hayes(T)Solid effort by the young team. Played a man down for 2/3 of the game. Got down 25-5 at the start of the second half but mounted a very physical and exciting comeback. Narrowed the score to 25-20 by scoring 3 straight tries and had several opportunities inside the opponents 22. Seattle scored in the last minutes to ice the game.

Barbarians U-17 vs Seattle - W 25-5
Conan Stairrett (2T), Uriah Tuuao (T), Gabe Winkley (T), Jesse Pullins (T)
Barbarians U-19 vs Seattle - T 24-24
Malachi Jones (T), Eddie Harriage (T), Ben Pendowski (T), Tasi Tonuao (T), Lui Sitama (2C)Close back and forth game. Budd Bay was forced to play a man down for over 60 minutes, and played 2 men down for 10 minutes in the second half. In spite of this they were able to rally from a 19-10 2nd half disadvantage to tie it up with less than 5 minutes to go. The play of the game was Ben running down Seattle's wing (Ben is a prop), tackling as he scored a try. The try was scored but Ben's hustle prevented Seattle from converting and kept it a 7 point game. Minutes later Ben was able to get outside and score in the middle, setting up Budd Bay to kick the conversion and tie the game.

Steelheads - W 65-19
The Steelheads high school girls rugby team traveled to Buckley to play Rainier Plateau on a blustery Spring day Sunday, returning with a 65 to 19 victory. The score at the half was 41 to 7. Big match against area rivals Shelton next weekend!

Updated Training Location

More match reports, more newspaper articles, and a change to the training schedule! Read on for all the exiting details.

The Steelheads opened the season with a glorious day of rugby in Kent against the perennial state champions and nationally ranked Crusaders on Sunday. The team had 32 players on the roster, with 26 players available to dress out Sunday, which is the largest roster the Steelheads have had in recent memory. While the score went in Kent’s favor, 25 to 15, the Steelheads were ahead at the half (10 to 7) and held the lead until late in the second half. The girls played a very physical game and excelled in the ruck and tackling. A third half was played which went very well, with the Steelheads playing mostly the starting Kent lineup to a draw. Overall it was an excellent outing and start to the season. Next week the team is away again to Bellingham to play Chuckanut.

In a recent email there was a link to a great article at ThurstonTalk.com about Budd Bay Rugby. Well, BBRFC is back in the news! This time it's OlympiaPowerandLight.com with a wonderful article about BBRFC's involvement in the growth of rugby throughout the Pacific Northwest - and the world. Check it out here. In addition, Saturday's match scores for the Barbarians may be in today's Olympian. Be sure to let these organizations know how much we appreciate receiving all this great publicity!

The teams have begun transitioning to Bush Park for the remainder of the season. Due to the sun, Daylight Savings (this Sunday - set your clock!), and other uncontrollable elements, the times and locations of training will vary for the next few weeks. Be sure to check out www.budddbayrugby.com/schedules to stay up to date on the latest training location and time.

2013-02-03 Club Sign-Up Day

There's a great article at ThurstonTalk.com about Budd Bay Rugby, with interviews from Club President Dan Smith and Coaching Director Pete Sullivan. Check it out here. It's wonderful to get some press, so be sure to read the article and support the club!

The Barbarians played Chuckanut Bay RFC this weekend, and put up a strong showing. Check out the scores below, or the Olympian on Wednesday!

U15 Boys v Chuckanut - Loss, 10-20
U17 Boys v Chuckanut - Win, 40-5
U19 Boys v Chuckanut - Loss, 24-14

The final match was well played. The Barbarians led through the last 10 minutes of the game. Chuckanut never lost steam, and some very well run plays saw them earn two late tries to put them up 24-14.

Stay tuned for more match reports throughout the week!
