Save The Date - Barbarian's Alumni Match
June 1, 2013 - The annual Barbarian Alumni Match is on the books!  This is a great event for Barbarian Alumni to come out and meet the current players, reminisce about old times and show us all that you've still got "it".  Last year this event was a great success, not only fielding a great game, but also providing some monetary support for the club's Vision Fund.  Of course, we're looking to improve this year!  Stay tuned for further details.

Save The Date - Golf Tournament
September 15, 2013 - mark that date down in your calendars!  Ok, your day planner may not go out that far yet, but Budd Bay is already starting to plan for our annual Vision Fund Golf Tournament!  Our previous event was a huge success, but this year we are really turning it up a notch.  We'll be playing at Delphi Golf Course, a beautiful course out on Delphi Road.  Lots more details to come, but be sure to save the date!  If you would like to get involved, or know someone who might like to sponsor a hole, please get in touch with Rena who has volunteered to coordinate the event.

A few quick notes before getting into the exciting news of the week:
  • The April Board Meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 24th.  See you at Round Table Pizza at 6:30.
  • Lacey Parks noticed a large amount of trash and gear/clothing at Rainier Vista last weekend.  Please help us retain our rights to our home field by cleaning up when you leave, and taking all your gear with you!

New Sponsors!
I'm pleased to announce that the H.D. Fowler Company has been added to our list of key sponsors!  Sponsorships are the primary way in which Budd Bay is able to maintain our low fee structures and still provide our players with jerseys, training equipment, field space, insurance, etc., and we are incredibly grateful to those organizations making an effort to support local rugby.  Feel free to welcome H.D. Fowler to our club by checking out their website and letting them know how much you appreciate their support.
This news comes on the heels of last month's announcement of the addition of Olympia Federal Savings to our club - a returning sponsor with whom we are excited to reunite.
If you, or any organization you know is interested in becoming a sponsor, please let us know!  We have all sorts of opportunities (read more here), and have a great cause to support!

Event Coordinator Needed

In only 2 months Budd Bay Rugby will be hosting the 21st annual Tatunka 7's Tournament. Unfortunately, we haven't yet had anyone volunteer to be this year's tournament coordinator. Without a tournament coordinator, the event is in great jeopardy! Mary Shero has run the event (excellently!) for the last few years, and has laid a fantastic framework, making the job as easy as it has ever been. However, we do need someone to step into this role, providing a point of contact for registrants, coordination for equipment rentals and field setup, and problem solving on the day of the tournament. We have lots of info on how to run this event as smoothly as possible, and Mary has agreed to answer questions as needed. PLEASE - IF YOU'RE AT ALL INTERESTED, WE REALLY NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Of course, we still have the following positions available as well:

Vice-President
Treasurer
Special Events Coordinator

If you are interested in filling any of these positions, or any others, please let the club know by filling out our Volunteer Application.

Match Report, Save The Date, New Volunteers!

Match reports and upcoming schedules below, but first, a special thank you to the following stellar individuals who have agreed to step into new roles:

Trevor Anderson is a long time stalwart with the club and has filled just about every role we have. To add to his resume, Trevor has agreed to take over the Coaching Director on an interim basis for the remainder of the season. Trevor is already deeply involved with the Barbarians, but in his new capacity he will be working with the entire coaching staff to ensure good communication and coordination between the teams. Please thank Trevor when you see him next and give him all the support you can.

Tony Cox is newer to the club, but has thrown himself into his volunteer roles with enthusiasm. Already working with the coaching staff, Tony has agreed to take on a Member-at-Large position on the board. We look forward to the insight and enthusiasm Tony can bring to the club's administration. Give him a big thanks when you see him!

Trevor used to be the club's Vice-President, but due to his new capacity as Coaching Director, the Vice-Presidency is now open. If you're interested, or interested in any of the other positions below, please let us know. We need your help to keep this amazing organization moving forward!

Match ReportsBarbarians U-15 vs Seattle - L 20-32
Anthony Edwards (2T), Kyle Untalan (T), Treshon Hayes(T)Solid effort by the young team. Played a man down for 2/3 of the game. Got down 25-5 at the start of the second half but mounted a very physical and exciting comeback. Narrowed the score to 25-20 by scoring 3 straight tries and had several opportunities inside the opponents 22. Seattle scored in the last minutes to ice the game.

Barbarians U-17 vs Seattle - W 25-5
Conan Stairrett (2T), Uriah Tuuao (T), Gabe Winkley (T), Jesse Pullins (T)
Barbarians U-19 vs Seattle - T 24-24
Malachi Jones (T), Eddie Harriage (T), Ben Pendowski (T), Tasi Tonuao (T), Lui Sitama (2C)Close back and forth game. Budd Bay was forced to play a man down for over 60 minutes, and played 2 men down for 10 minutes in the second half. In spite of this they were able to rally from a 19-10 2nd half disadvantage to tie it up with less than 5 minutes to go. The play of the game was Ben running down Seattle's wing (Ben is a prop), tackling as he scored a try. The try was scored but Ben's hustle prevented Seattle from converting and kept it a 7 point game. Minutes later Ben was able to get outside and score in the middle, setting up Budd Bay to kick the conversion and tie the game.

Steelheads - W 65-19
The Steelheads high school girls rugby team traveled to Buckley to play Rainier Plateau on a blustery Spring day Sunday, returning with a 65 to 19 victory. The score at the half was 41 to 7. Big match against area rivals Shelton next weekend!

Erika DeLeon (2T), Alyssa Dolan-Caret (T), Erica Legaspi (T), Brittany Caoile (T), Ellie Linn (T, 3C), Quincie Ball (T)The Bandits played their first game in about a year at home vs. Tacoma. The eager veterans and bright-eyed rookies came out swinging and never looked back. They played a hard fought 80 minutes and came out on top 41-14.T = Try (5 points), C = Conversion (2 Points), P = Penalty Kick (3 Points)

Remember, practices have changed - 6-8 pm at Bush park. See you there!
